Ice Gold Cooling: How Gold Improves Heat Management

Elevating a product can be a complex process that needs to be tackled from multiple angles. The design, power, and types of materials used all play a major role in the result. These seemingly small decisions are not made at random but serve a larger purpose. Whether it’s cost efficiency, performance-driven, or something else entirely, these choices can either make or break your product.

When it comes to technology, every minuscule component holds significant value as well. For mobile gaming in particular, manufacturers tend to favor lighter materials that are better at thermal management and more resilient. At REDMAGIC, we’ve pulled out the drawing board a few times to find the right materials to use in our state-of-the-art devices, and now it looks like we’ve struck gold.

Today, we’ll be delving into the cooling characteristics and effects of gold as a key material, especially in relation to gaming devices. This will help us in understanding the tangible benefits of our innovative Golden Saga series, which has now been extended to our Astra gaming tablet and flagship 11 Pro gaming smartphone. For now, let’s see why gold is such a unique metal.

In Its Element

Gold (Au) is a highly sought-after, precious metal that is often used in jewelry, electronics, and other areas. The dense material is also a noble metal, which means that it exhibits remarkable resistance to corrosion and oxidation. This inherent stability is useful in applications where durability and longevity are essential. The high melting point of the metal also adds to its structural integrity over time and endurance.

When it comes to thermal conductivity, gold stands at a high 318 Watts per metre Klevin (W/mk), ranking third most efficient heat conductor among metals. When exposed to heat, gold will rapidly distribute thermal energy throughout its structure, making it valuable in applications where efficient heat dissipation is essential.

This has been a valuable characteristic in electronics and aerospace applications, allowing the metal to regulate temperature through gold-plated components in heat sinks, spacecrafts, and more. However, most modern devices already have a coating or layer of gold somewhere in their mechanics, from your microwave and computer to your TV.

Sourced from Geology

Gold has always been a valuable material, as it resists tarnish, prevents overheating, and is pliable enough to coat and cover intricate components. More than its practical advantages, gold is naturally a more prestigious material.

From an aesthetic point of view, products designed with gold components are typically seen as more high-end, capable, and exclusive. Despite the shiny veneer, the inclusion of gold in our REDMAGIC devices extends beyond a superficial glaze, actively working to maintain optimal heat dissipation, cooling, and durability.

A Golden Gaming Opportunity

According to the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries for 2025, around 7% of the gold used in the US in 2024 went towards electronics, generally found in cellphones, computers, car components, medical devices, and more. This has been mostly due to the metal’s excellent electrical conductivity, ensuring the transmission of electrical signals without significant loss.

Gold also forms stable bonds with other materials typically found in electronics, like copper and silicone, to produce resilient systems. Now, gaming devices generate massive amounts of heat daily to function. This is simply a fact of the trade. However, manufacturers have found new and innovative methods of reducing heat and actively cooling devices to prevent damage or discomfort.

While using specific materials for their thermal management properties in a gaming device is no new concept, the use of gold-plated cooling components was still a mostly novel idea. Gaming devices often rely on layers of graphene, liquid metal alloys, copper, and other materials to dissipate heat and keep devices cooler for longer.

At REDMAGIC, we’ve employed all these methods and more in our extensive line of cooling systems. However, since our previous Golden Saga release, we’ve taken a particular shine to melting gold into the mix for our limited-edition series.

REDMAGIC’s Gold Rush

Last year, we launched our REDMAGIC 10 Pro Golden Saga as part of our Legend of Zhenjin Limited Collection. The elegant collector’s item featured our powerhouse 10 Pro with dazzling gold-plating and paneling that elevated both the design and performance of the device. Fitted with a unique gold-plated vapor chamber, gold and silver air channels, a carbon fiber exterior, and a sapphire back panel, the 10 Pro marked a lavishly innovative step in the mobile industry.

Now, we have the absolute honor of presenting our Astra and 11 Pro Golden Saga editions as well, both releasing at the same time and enjoying the same gold-drenched performance and cooling boost that their older sister did.

Within the Astra Golden Saga, the 13-layer ICE-X cooling system is elevated by gold-plated, dual-layer sandwich vapor chambers, ultra-light carbon fiber fins, and our signature turbo fan to reduce temperatures by up to 8°C and improve cooling efficiency by 28%.

The 11 Pro Golden Saga introduces the industry’s first liquid cooling system with a flowing gold visual effect, our signature gold-plated vapor chamber, and a gold–silver composite thermal channel to ensure rapid heat transfer.  These heavy-weight, limited releases feature real gold and silver along with supercar-grade carbon fiber for a lightweight yet durable exterior.

Dressed in golden accents and plating, both of these Golden Saga editions represent a rare occasion where luxury and performance are a priority without faltering on either end. Above all else, these golden additions enhance cooling, durability, longevity, and performance while offering a distinct and alluring aesthetic appeal.

Pre-orders officially launched on January 19 at 6:30 AM EST, and you can now take a bite of decadence with our latest flagship and the most powerful gaming tablet on the market—both dripping in gold. Step into a world of elegance with our newest Golden Saga launches and dazzle without breaking a sweat.
